You might think you’re emotionally prepared to watch Pat Sajak give Wheel of Fortune one final spin, but trust us, you’re not.

After more than four decades at the helm of the iconic game show, Sajak hosts his final episode on Friday, and TVLine has a sneak peek of his farewell message to Wheel’s devoted fans.

“Well, the time has come to say goodbye,” Sajak begins in the video above, managing to maintain his composure. “I have a few thanks and acknowledgments before I go, and I want to start with all of you watching out there. It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade. I’ve always felt that the privilege came with a responsibility to keep this daily half hour a safe place for family fun — no social issues, no politics, nothing embarrassing… I hope. Just a game.”

The host continues: “But gradually it became more than that — a place where kids learned their letters, where people from other countries honed their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors and entire generations. What an honor to have played even a small part in all of that. Thank you for allowing me into your lives.”

And this isn’t the first time Wheel of Fortune has made us feel things this week. Thursday’s episode included an emotional tribute to Sajak from his longtime co-host Vanna White.

“When I first started, I was so green,” White recalled. “You made me so comfortable, and made me so confident, Pat. You made me who I am. You really did. … You’re like a brother to me, and I consider you a true, life-long friend who I will always adore,” she concludes. “I love you, Pat.”

As previously reported, Ryan Seacrest is taking over as the new host of Wheel of Fortune when the game show returns for Season 42 in September. White will also return as Seacrest’s co-host, following a headline-making contract renegotiation .
