The Most Expensive EV In America Costs $230,000

Several observations have been made about a drawback in EVs that has hurt sales: the prices. The Ford Mustang Mach-E can cost as much as $60,000, while a Tesla Model S Plaid is about $80,000. Several Lucid models are priced above $80,000. Beyond these, several EV versions of BMWs, Mercedes, and Cadillacs are priced at about $100,000.

EV Challenge –Americans Don’t Want Them

None of these come close to the most expensive EV from a major manufacturer. True Car says the 2024 Porsche Taycan has an MSRP as high as $230,000. As should be expected from a Porsche, the Taycan has superb handling. Its primary drawback is range.

The Taycan’s engines put out 777 HP. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 in a shocking 2.2 seconds.

    Tire Wear

Some owners have pointed out tire wear among the Taycan’s drawbacks. EVs burn through tires anyway. With the 2.2 seconds, the tires, which on a gas-powered engine might last 60,000 miles, could last less than half that on this car.  That means an investment of $5,000 to $6,000 for new ones.

Finally, try to find a charging station. The Taycan has a range of 340 miles. While better than most, it still does not match many gas-powered cars.
