Godzilla x Kong Sequel Gets New Director

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire 's director teased another sequel in his MonsterVerse, but now that follow-up has parted ways with Adam Wingard and will, instead, be directed by Grant Sputore.

Sputore's first feature, I Am Mother, starring Rose Byrne, Luke Hawker and Hilary Swank, hit Netflix in 2019. Now, it has been revealed that his sophomore effort will be a big-budget MonsterVerse epic featuring the beloved Titans that have previously scored a combined total of $2.5 billion in box office dollars.

The sequel will be a continuation of the world already established by Wingard in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire , which is said to feature "an assortment of other Titans", as per The Hollywood Reporter .

Not only are they switching up the director, but the screenwriter, as Dave Callaham — whose previous works include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Wonder Woman 1984 and S hang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings — steps in to pen the next chapter.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hit theaters in March and landed itself $567.6 million at the worldwide box office from its rumored $135 million budget.

Fans are still turning up to see Godzilla and Kong face-off, but will that money still translate now a new director is in town? Only time will tell.
