BMitch: 'Jayden Daniels has the right make-up to be successful in the NFL'

Louis Riddick said on ESPN recently that he gets ‘super excited’ about Jayden Daniels, and he thinks JD5 will ‘accept the challenge’ of playing for the Commanders and has been ‘spectacular’ in OTAs, where players have gravitated toward him – and ‘he is going to take that town by storm.’

Believer count in Riddick’s thought process? At least one BMitch.

“I am on the same side as Louis Riddick, and I’ll tell you why: we know the guy has talent, and he has some weapons that can help him out, but the one thing I’m amazed about is that I love when they talk about young players being students of the game,” Brian said Friday. “Most young guys come in in his position, where he was drafted, and think they know every damn thing.
I'll give you two people: Michael Westbrook when I was here, Robert Griffin III later on; Robert had an unbelievable year that year, but that took his mindset of thinking I know everything even farther. But, Jayden Daniels is a guy who came in with the attitude that he’s willing to learn and I'm going to show my teammates.”

And that led to an interesting comparison.

“Brett Favre threw more interceptions than anybody in the NFL, but when people talk about Brett Favre, they praise him; his teammates loved him, because he was working his ass off and wasn’t a guy who went around with the QB mentality of being better than everybody,” Brian said. “Tom Brady was loved, too, because he was the first guy in and the last to leave, and on the field, you knew he was gonna be prepared. That is what this young man is doing.”

B also railed about the people already criticizing Daniels for mistakes in OTAs, telling people who do that ‘you are a damn fool and don't understand football, and if you feel a little some kind of way because I said that, a scalded dog will holler.’

Ultimately, though, it’s what Daniels learns from making those mistakes that will seal his fate.

“He's learning now and when he makes mistakes, cool, but when he does some things that you don't expect a young guy to do, you gotta get praise for that – and he has the right makeup of a person that can be successful in this league,” Brian said. “We don't know if he will be or not, but why am I gonna start trying to knock him, because he hadn't done nothing to be knocked yet? I would rather see my quarterback stressed in practice and not the game, rather have 14 people on defense against that kid in practice. That might be a good thing to do that because I want the environment to be more difficult for hi so the game is easier.”
