Wilson was a welcome new addition to the show, with even the New York Times dubbing him “the breakout star of Summer House .” Ciara, meanwhile, joined the cast in season 5 and has become a firm fan favorite. So when the newbie and a show veteran (so to speak) started hooking up, viewers were very interested to see where it would lead. Unfortunately, the fling wouldn’t last. Straight from the horse’s mouth, this is why West and Ciara broke up on Summer House .

Ciara confirmed she and West were no longer seeing each other during the season 8 reunion that aired on June 6, 2024. He told her in December 2023—before the season even aired—that he couldn’t commit to her because of “show-related reasons.” Yeah, we don’t know what he means either but cheating was certainly one of the takeaways from fans, at least, there was “too much temptation” due to his overnight fame.

“I’ve done a couple watch parties where people f—ing show up and do whatever. That’s pictures and it’s, the Bravo fanbase is all women,” he said. “There’s these random things that I’ve never experienced before. Not temptation, just, is that a s—ty look then to go these watch parties with women?”

In a later interview with Vulture, West tried to make sense of what he said during the reunion and explain why they broke up in more detail. “Our breakup felt more mutual in real-time than it turned out to be on reunion day,” he said.

“Ciara’s reaction was a lot different than I had interpreted. When we stopped talking, it felt like a mature conversation. We agreed on a lot of things, and it was emotional but it didn’t feel like she had that much animosity toward me. You never want to see someone who you care about get their feelings hurt, but that’s not how I thought it played out in real life at all.”

When asked to explain what he meant by “show-related reasons”, West responded: “I didn’t word things correctly. I was trying not to break the fourth wall too hard. Dating on the show is not the most fun experience given that we coexist with these relationships in real life.” He added, “We gave it a try; I wasn’t there yet. When it comes down to it, it was two people who didn’t work out, which is okay. I was just in my head about so many things and kind of a bitch about it, honestly.”

With all this drama, is it likely West will return for the show’s ninth season? Nothing’s been confirmed yet but he told Vulture, “I’d go back.” Whether that’s what the fans want , many have taken to Reddit to show how divided the fanbase is.

“I came out of this season knowing that Ciara and West weren’t together and I didn’t care. I fully expected to still like him.. however, after tonight I’m very creeped out by his behavior. Why make such a big deal about sleeping with someone who you know wants to wait while simultaneously sleeping with other people?” [sic] asked one. “I feel like the fan base West thought would love him, will suddenly turn on him very fast,” another observed.
