There’s a reason why the “Little Black Dress” (LBD) has never left the list of must-haves for your closet. A nice black dress is so versatile, you can dress it up or down depending on your mood or the occasion. Plus, most styles of the LBD are flattering and timeless, like one of Old Navy’s top-selling linen-blend dresses . Not only is this particular dress chic, but it’s affordable and it looks like dresses from Free People and Abercrombie & Fitch that are twice the price.
The dress in question is the Sleeveless Linen-Blend Mini Dress at Old Navy, which is currently $34.99. It has a classic silhouette, which is fitted to the wearer’s curves. It has a classy square neckline and has princess seams, which are curved seams near the bust that accentuate your bust’s shape. And for comfort, there’s a smocked back so that there’s more give in the top.
The color that caught our eye is Black Jack, which is a solid deep black, but it comes in several other colors and patterns too: Cherry Tomato, Blue Gingham, Neutral Stripe, Lemons and Neutral (beige). It also comes in Old Navy’s signature sizing categories of regular, tall and petite, and sizes XS through 4X. As the name says, it’s a linen blend with fabric made of 55% linen and 45% rayon.
On top of linen-blend dresses being perfect for the warm weather of summer, customers seem to like this dress as a whole too. There are 401 ratings and reviews, giving the dress over a 4-star rating. One reviewer wrote that this was "a surprise hit," describing the dress as "comfortable and flattering" which are two things that are important in nice dresses.
"Perfect classic dress for so many occasions!!” another person wrote. “Fit true to size."
And yet another reviewer said that this was the "perfect vacation dress!!"
"Love the way it fits, great for vacation and work," they finished.
As stated above, a big plus to this sleeveless mini dress is the fact that it looks like some higher-priced dresses out there (for a cheaper price). The first one is the Close To Heart Mini Dress at Free People. It’s $68 right now and has a similar design and silhouette to Old Navy’s. It has a square neckline, a fitted bodice and hits at the top of the thigh. The main difference are the straps, which are a similar width but are ruched. Plus they tie in the back creating a cut-out look. This linen-blend dress is also mostly cotton (89%) with 11% linen.
Abercrombie & Fitch has a dress that’s a near replica of Old Navy’s, though, called the Linen-Blend Shift Mini Dress . It’s $70 and basically has the same design, from the square neckline to the thick straps and fit. It doesn’t have a smocked back but it is made with a similar amount of linen: 53% linen and 47% cotton with a 100% cotton lining.
If you’re looking to add another LBD to your closet—or want to find the perfect one to start your collection—Old Navy’s Sleeveless Linen-Blend Mini Dress is a good place to start. Why pass up a well-designed dress at a decent price?
