Dogs are like children in many ways. They enjoy exploring the world and finding wonder in simple things. They also need mental and physical exercise to sleep well at night and often require our undivided attention.

When their needs are met, children and dogs have no trouble getting their rest, even in the strangest places and positions. This adorable Pit Bull undoubtedly found his happy place, and he's off to dreamland.

Check out this video from April 4 to see where and how he chose to slumber.

I would love to be able to sleep this soundly. Tom (@ tom_bully ), the English Bull Terrier , knows he's safe and secure, so he doesn't mind sleeping on his back on top of the couch without a care in the world. With his front paws up and folded over and his back legs extended, he appears to be frozen in time. Even as his parent moved closer to capture a better shot, he didn't move a muscle. Talk about a deep sleep!

Why Do Dogs Like To Sleep on the Back of the Couch?

Although his position may be unique, I've had many dogs whose favorite place to nap was on the back of the couch. I've always assumed it's because it was in front of a window, and it gave them a better view of the world outside. It's also possible that being up high gives them a vantage point against potential attacks or predators. Other theories suggest that animals might feel comfortable sleeping in a spot that's familiar and contains our scent. While we may never know for sure, it also was my favorite place to nap as a child. Although I'm not sure why I chose this location either, I can understand his affinity for this spot.

People had theories about why this good boy chose this particular location. Viewer @thatmoneybook responded, “Must have told him to keep his paws off your couch… he complied.” That’s an excellent point. Another person remarked, "Just demonstrating the correct way of sofa usage! We humans are doing it wrong, don’t you know! By bull terrier often gets right under the seat cushions… they know something we don’t.” That could be. Viewer @sharonrainbow_ responded, “Well, in all my life, I’ve never seen a dog sleep like that. So peacefully, too!” He appeared to be in a completely different world.

Next time we have insomnia, we should try napping on the back of the sofa. Who knows? It might work better than any sleep aid ever could, and it comes with no side effects.
