Lehrhaus Bringing Spiritual and Physical Sustenance to DC

A Boston import is bringing education, culture, and delicious cuisine to DC. Lehrhaus, named one of Esquire ’s best new restaurants in 2023, is coming to the District next year, reports local media outlet PoPville.

The tavern, which has earned accolades from multiple media outlets, has not yet selected a location for its DC debut. Jewish Insider states it is probable that Lehrhaus will set up camp somewhere in the Northwest, likely in Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, or Columbia Heights.

In addition to a broad range of global Jewish cuisine, Lehrhaus invites the community to learn and enjoy fellowship within its walls. The establishment will host classes and events that are open to both Jewish and non-Jewish customers.

Lehrhaus’s DC location is still in the early phases. In addition to scouting potential homes, the concept is putting together the team that will run the tavern’s day-to-day operations.

Rabbi Charlie Schwartz, Lehrhaus’s director, is excited to introduce DC to the restaurant. He believes the District and the tavern will provide each other with a unique energy. Rabbi Schwartz state: ““It’s the energy of the city, and the uniqueness of it. There’s a flavor to what happens in D.C. that we think will be exciting to tap into — the amount of young people that are there and that are constantly flowing through there. The D.C. area has some great kosher establishments, and there’s probably room for a world-class kosher cocktail bar and pescatarian restaurant.”
