Ohioans are putting a ring on it

Just over 31% of Ohioans over 15 years old have tied the knot at least once as of 2022, American Community Survey data shows.

Why it matters: June is a popular wedding month and plenty of Ohioans might be adding to that statistic in the coming weeks.

State of play: Ohio's marriage rate is middle of the pack compared to the other 49 states.

    • Wyoming has the highest with 34.6% of residents that have gotten married, with Rhode Island last at 28.5%. Maybe it's too small for residents to find a suitable partner.

The big picture: Though marital status is a strong predictor of economic well being, data shows Americans are forgoing or delaying marriage.

    • The marriage rate over the last 50 years dropped by nearly 60%, and divorce is now more widely accepted in the U.S.
    • Separately, more Americans are living alone , as the country faces an isolation and loneliness crisis.
