On June 6, Granville County Public Schools was awarded an Emerging Technologies Grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Digital Learning Initiative.

This grant will provide $50,000 to the district to support the Artificial Intelligence Task Force work and AI Camp for eighth- through 12th-grade students. According to NCDPI, “The AI Task Force and its AI camp for 8-12 graders are innovative steps toward enhancing AI education, focusing on boosting teacher capabilities and student engagement in AI, aligned with educational and writing standards.”

The competitive Emerging Technologies Grant funds innovative projects that help school districts foster digital learning, digital citizenship, innovative design, and other technological skills in their students.

GCPS Superintendent Stan WInborne expressed enthusiasm for the opportunities the grant presents.

“We’re excited to take yet another step in preparing our students for the changing technology landscape and entering technology-rich work environments,” Winborne said. “This grant will also help our staff stay updated on AI to enhance cybersecurity.”
