There's a running joke that senior dogs can just get away with whatever they want. They've done the training and spent years behaving - now it's their turn to be a little crazy. They've earned a few years of being trouble!

On Sunday, June 9th, we saw one Basset Hound taking his senior-itis quite seriously. Not only was he willing to get out of bed for the cause, but he lugged his food storage container all across the house so he could enjoy it at his leisure:

you can tell I raised the dog in the back bc he didnt even wanna sniff it too close😭

Alicia Allen's second dog, Nash, is just watching all of this go down .He knows he'd get in trouble for it, but who yells at a sweet senior pup? And he's working it off, that bin is heavy!

The culprit in this video is 14 years old. For a Basset Hound, that's really old; their lifespan is anywhere from 8-12 years . It just goes to show that this good boy has been very well-cared for throughout his life; if you set your dog up for a long and healthy life as a puppy, they'll live well into their adult years. It seems like this boy is having no issues moving, either: to walk across the house is one thing, but to lug a hefty container? Go, pup!

This video is exactly why pet cameras are so important. Yes, it's very funny, but this evidence is legitimately helpful : they come with timestamps, so when she got home, Alicia was able to see exactly how long it had been since he did the dragging and how much he had eaten. These are important pieces of information when you're trying to figure out if your senior dog is about to get sick or not!

How to Doggy-Proof Food Storage Containers

The container in this video is a pretty typical example of dog food storage: it has a lid that snaps on, and there's a scoop inside to portion out the food. These containers may be a classic, but that doesn't mean they're the best idea: a dedicated dog can absolutely get into that with no problem. Instead, you should try:

    1. Keeping their food in a high place, like on a table or in a cabinet.
    2. Keeping the kibble in its original bag and placing that in the container for added protection.
      1. Keeping the food in its original packaging will help keep it from spoiling !
    3. If you really need to use this storage solution, add on a baby-proof cabinet lock.
    4. Put something on top of the kibble container that's too hard to knock off, like a book.

This big guy managed to fool his mom once, but it probably won't happen again. Good job getting busted!
