MONROE — The federal government’s annual assessment of DTE Energy’s Fermi 2 nuclear plant will be part of the regular June 17 Monroe City Council meeting.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said on its website that it is on the city council’s agenda to discuss the plant’s 2023 safety performance. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and can be viewed online .

No major issues were identified in an assessment letter the government regulator sent plant officials on Feb. 28.

The NRC usually schedules its own meetings once a year to discuss assessments. In this case, agency officials will make themselves available after the city council meeting to answer questions on a one-on-one basis.

Fermi 2 is in northeast Monroe County’s Frenchtown Township, along the western Lake Erie shoreline about 30 miles from downtown Toledo.
