If you’ve ever had the pleasure of having or meeting a Maine Coon, you know that they’re a different breed of cat. These frisky felines are not only much larger than your average Tabby, but they have personalities all their own.

These outgoing kitties tend to act more like friendly dogs. After seeing this video from June 3, it seems like a fact that’s hard to argue.

These cat parents (@ maxiecoon ) tell us if we aren’t sure about getting a dog, we might want to consider a Maine Coon instead. They are big enough to be regarded as medium-sized dogs; they love to purr, and they don’t have to be walked! Although, if you’re looking for a companion to stroll alongside you, many also do very well on leashes and enjoy adventures.

The Way Maine Coons Are Like Dogs

    1. They are super needy and not as independent as most cats are, and they like to get attached to their favorite human.

    2. They like to play fetch their treats and toys.

    3. Their hefty frames have them stomping around the house like hippos, and they know how to growl.

    4. They like to bite and chew on things.

    5. They are strong, intelligent, and mischievous.

    6. They come when called. That is not something the average cat will do.

These big kitties are the largest of the domestic cat breeds . Fully grown, they can be 19 to 30 pounds. On average, these gentle giants have a lifespan on average of 9 to 15 years. Their fur is water resistant, and many enjoy playing with or swimming in the water. These beautiful kitties come in various colors, from brown to gray and even all-white. Their eyes include shades of green, yellow, and copper. While they may not need as much exercise as a dog, they still need plenty of activity that also includes mental enrichment.

While people pointed out that any cat can exhibit these behaviors, pet parents of this breed were familiar with their charming traits. Viewer @kitty_cutter_boom responded, “I had a Norwegian Forest cat , who are cousins of Maine Coons, and he was very much like a dog.” Viewer @leannabrenner remarked, “Everything you said is 100% true about my Maine Coon! He does all of that- especially the sock. Wherever I leave it, he brings it to me.” They are a funny breed.

Although cats act like dogs and dogs can sometimes act like cats, I can say from personal experience that there is something different about a Maine Coon. However, no matter what their genetics might be or where they come from, cats and dogs always make the best companions, especially those that are rescued.
