If you've recently watched an online creator build their own desk from scratch, the chances of it being comprised of IKEA products is pretty high.

Why is everyone opting to build a desk versus buy one already made? Isn't this arguably a more tedious process? Well, as it turns out, not only is this a much cheaper option, but it allows for way more personalization and you can adjust it as much as you want. With more and more people choosing to work from home, this is a huge bonus.

Plus, you would never guess it wasn't a desk in the first place. That's how good it looks.

TikTok creator Naj ( @naj_visuals ) tackles this desk trend while also showing off his own WFH creation, obviously crafted from IKEA items.

When you first see his large desk, you would probably assume it's a stand-alone item but as he explains, it's actually made from three basic furniture pieces. Anyone can put this together!

What's the IKEA Desk Hack and Why Is Everyone Doing It?

It's wildly simple: you purchase a singular counter or table top from IKEA in whatever length you prefer your desk to be, and then you snag two identical drawers to go under either side. This way you are automatically building in a gap for your chair and ample storage space.

Obviously you can mix and match various IKEA products until you find the combination you like, but one of the most popular combos is a wooden countertop, like the KARLBY, paired with two ALEX drawers on either side.

If you work from home and want to elevate your desk, literally and aesthetically, you can purchase standing desk legs online to give yourself to option to either raise or lower your desktop.

Since large home office desks can cost upwards of $800 a piece, this tactic saves you a few hundred dollars.

Here's the official cost breakdown, based on the desk Naj built for his office.

    - (2) ALEX drawers at $100 a piece

    - (1) KARLBY countertop for $179.

Only $379 for a spacious desk? Not a bad deal at all! Add on raisable standing desk legs for $109 and still your total remains under $500.

This is a great option for anyone trying to decorate their home office or bedroom on a budget!
