Horrifying images have shown the moment a missing mom of four's body was discovered inside a 20ft python after villagers sliced open the creature's belly.

The 50-year-old woman, known as Farida, disappeared while trekking through the forest on her way to a local market in Kalimpong, Indonesia , where she intended to sell food. Her worried husband, 55-year-old Noni, along with other villagers, launched a desperate search when she didn't return home that evening.

Their worst fears were confirmed when they stumbled upon an engorged snake lurking in the underbrush, prompting them to inspect it further. Using a machete, they cut open the massive serpent and shockingly discovered Farida's body inside on June 6.

It's suspected that the python bit into her leg before engulfing her entirely. Locals surmise she was suffocated and also suffered a bite wound. Farida's remains were extracted from the snake so that she could be given a proper religious funeral in the Pitu Riawa district of Sidrap Regency.

A heartbroken Noni lamented: "I am forever sorry that I let my wife go out alone. If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her," adding, "I feel sorry for the suffering she went through. I am sorry for our family."

This incident is reportedly the first of its kind in Kalempang, despite previous python attacks in Indonesia, as per the Daily Star. Village chief Suardi Rosi has since cautioned: "We have warned everybody to be careful when they walk through the woods. Women should be accompanied by someone."

In 2022, Jahrah, a 54-year-old man, disappeared after collecting rubber from a plantation in the Jambi province. Two days later, locals found his body inside a giant python in a small clearing.

Wa Tiba, a 54-year-old mother of two, also fell victim to a snake attack in 2018. Her sandals and machete were found a day after her unexplained disappearance, just 30 meters away from a giant python.

Local resident Ayu Kartika expressed her shock and fear at the time, saying: "Everybody was crying, everybody was shocked. The poor woman. This is like a horror movie. People are terrified. We are scared to go outside. We can only pray for safety."

Police superintendent Agung Ramos from the Muna district Indonesian National Police detailed the events leading up to her death. He explained: "Children and residents had been looking for Wa after she did not return home. Some items belonging to the victim, sandals, machete, and flashlights, were found but the victim was not there.

"The family then reported this to the police and the search reached its conclusion at 9am. Residents found a python that looked like it was unable to move. Residents then suspected the snake swallowed Wa Tiba. People took the snake into the village and started splitting it open. The suspicions were true, and there was a body intact inside the snake. Unfortunately, the victim was lifeless."
