Holmes County Historical Society to host community history event at Oak Hill Cemetery

The Holmes County Historical Society is hosting a free public event to bring back to life some interesting characters who are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The program will begin with a brief history of the cemetery and the authentication of the Adena Indian Mound by Mark Boley and Debbie Kline. This will be followed by a brief narrative from each character actor, who will then navigate to the final resting place of those they are portraying.

After the mound presentation, guests can walk to the graves and hear more from the characters.

The following is a list of characters and people portraying them: Dr. John Bigham told through the eyes of his sister Maria, by Millersburg Mayor Kelly Hoffee; Sheriff Jacob Bell, by Tom Vaughn; Frances McKee, by Robert Shoemaker; Dr. Robert Enos, by Chris Sieverdes; Dorothia Yost, by Society President Mary Tipton; Jennie Pomerene Hanley, by Greta Monter; Children’s Home, by Cylus Reed; Daniel Leadbetter, by Mike Monter; John Fenton, by Glen Hammel; Peter Meyers, by Ed Markley; and Pioneer Monoliths, by Jerry Kline.

Vehicles with handicap placards will be directed to designated parking areas. All other vehicles can park on roads around the mound.

Take a lawn chair and walking shoes. The cemetery has many uneven grassy areas to navigate, Boley said.
