CNN’s Maria Cardona Claims Taylor Swift Endorsing Biden Would Be Trump and GOP’s ‘Biggest Nightmare’ After He Praises ‘Beautiful’ Singer

CNN’s Maria Cardona chalked up Donald Trump’s recent comments on Taylor Swift to the “bucket of weird and strange” that makes up the former president’s campaign.

Cardona joined Kate Bolduan on CNN News Central on Tuesday and reacted to recent comments by Trump in which he commented on Swift being “unusually beautiful” and questioned whether her liberal politics are just an “act.”

“This just goes into that bucket of weird and strange that we are seeing pop up almost every single day in this campaign,” Cardona, a former advisor to Hillary Clinton , told Bolduan.

The Democratic strategist argued Democrats will only benefit from Trump getting lost down rabbit holes like the legitimacy of Swift’s politics. She called Swift endorsing President Joe Biden the “biggest nightmare” for Republicans and Trump.

Swift previously endorsed Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

“The more that Donald Trump focuses and is obsessed with someone like Taylor Swift, the better it is for Democrats because I think we do know that she’s liberal, we know that she probably will not vote for Donald Trump, and she may even come out endorse Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and the Democrats before the November election, which I think would be the Republicans’ and Donald Trump’s biggest nightmare,” Cardona said.

The strategist did warn that while Trump’s comments may be head-scratching to many, they will not affect his standing with his “base.”

“It gives us an opportunity to talk about the weirdness of Donald Trump, and again, that does nothing to take away from his base, but we know that his base will probably never leave him no matter what,” she said.

Trum’s comments on Swift were made to Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh for a new book. An excerpt that included the comments was published Monday in Variety.

“I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented,” Trump said of Swift. “I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!”

He also questioned how she could be successful with her liberal politics.

“She is liberal, or is that just an act?” he asked . “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”
