A waitress was fired from an upscale restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina for posting a video of a customer who brought a blow-up doll to dine with him.
Tara Bjork posted the bizarre video to TikTok on May 27 that captured Henry Herrera on a date with the doll during her shift at Restoration Hardware's lavish RH Rooftop Restaurant.
Since posting the video, which has amassed more than 2million views, Bjork said that she was fired from her job for recording the moment- something she knew she wasn't allowed to do.
'I knew one of two things was going to happen. Either the video was going to get no views and I would be fine, or it was going to blow up and I was going to have to deal with some consequences,' Bjork told WNCT .
Herrera revealed that the only reason he took the blow-up doll to the restaurant was because he had to face a punishment for losing his fantasy football league.
'The funny thing is it was my idea,' Herrera said, adding that he is the 'commissioner' of the league that he plays with his friends.
The now viral video starts with the moment Bjork realizes the doll in the middle of the rooftop, sitting across from Herrera.
'Ok, so I'm not supposed to be making TikTok's at work, but this calls for it,' she says.
'I work at a nice restaurant in Charlotte and I need you guys to see what just came in the door.'
Bjork then flips her camera and zooms in on Herrera sitting with the doll in front of a fountain in the center of the restaurant.
The blow-up doll, dressed in a black dress with red cherries, with short blond hair, is seen leaning back on the chair while Herrera looks at his phone.
Bjork then flips the camera back to her as she covers her face and is left speechless, only saying 'I-.'
In a separate TikTok video posted the following day, Herrera showed the experience from his perspective.
The video shows a carousel of clips from his date night, starting with a picture of the doll trying to sit in the chair with the caption: 'BRO PLEASE.'
It then shows a picture of him partially covering his face with his hand with the caption: 'I want to cry.'
Another picture shows Herrera with a burger in front of him, while the doll has a large salad. Herrera also ordered the pair drinks and fries to share.
Bjork said that witnessing the entire date was a whole different experience as everyone in the restaurant was in shock.
'I had three other tables at the time. Two of them were speaking to each other about it,' she said.
'One of my coworkers' tables were giving her updates on what was happening. He was feeding her grapes at one point.'
Although she could tell that the entire interaction was a joke, Bjork said that Herrera was committed to the prank that caused her to leave the room.
'Placing the doll down was one of the more mortifying moments because obviously it was stiff and inflated, it wasn’t sitting. So, he was trying to like maneuver it into the chair and it was, oh my God, it was so bad to watch,' Bjork recalled.
Herrera said that he isn't bothered that Bjork filmed the moment, as he expected it to get a lot of attention.
'As I was sitting down, I already saw like six phones recording me,' he said. 'I knew sooner or later the video was going to be somewhere.'
Even though Bjork lost her job for filming and posting the odd interaction, she already has another job lined up.
'I think for professional purposes, just do what's right for your job, but also follow your heart and do what feels right for you,' she said.
Meanwhile, Herrera said that he plans to change the punishment for his fantasy football team next year.
'I'm going to change it up. Do the complete opposite. It didn't work out so well. We'll switch it up this year,' he said.
