LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas will get more than $12 million as part of a nation-wide lawsuit settlement over the marketing of baby powder.

Attorney General Tim Griffin announced Tuesday that the state will receive more than $12.7 million from health products company Johnson & Johnson as part of a larger $700 million settlement.

The settlement is tied to a suit claiming that J&J misled consumers about the safety and purity of talc-based baby and body powder products sold by the company for decades.

In addition to the payouts, Johnson & Johnson agreed to stop the production, marketing and sale of Johnson’s Baby Powder, Johnson & Johnson’s Shower to Shower and other products in the United States.

“I thank my office’s Consumer Protection Division for their diligence and effort as part the coalition of 42 states that came together to hold the company accountable,” Griffin said in a release.
