Mingo County woman accused of killing cat during burglary

MINGO COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A West Virginia woman who was once on a television documentary is now facing criminal charges in Mingo County.

According to a criminal complaint from Mingo County Magistrate Court, Sue Ann White, 55, is charged with felony counts of burglary and animal cruelty resulting in death, and misdemeanor counts of destruction of property and petit larceny. White appeared in the 2009 documentary “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia” alongside her relatives.

White appeared in Mingo County Magistrate Court Wednesday morning where she waived her preliminary hearing. The case will go to a ground jury.

The charges stem from an incident that happened on June 2, 2024. According to a criminal complaint, the Williamson Police Department responded to a call regarding a burglary in East Williamson.

When officers arrived, the victim told them a woman, identified as White, had come to her home, accusing the victim of stealing from her, according to the complaint. Authorities say White then allegedly broke into the victim’s home, kicking in the front door and busting a window.

The complaint says White also allegedly stomped on a small cat’s head, killing the animal. According to the complaint, the victim alleged that White told her “Next time it will be your head instead of a cat’s.”

White then ran from the property, according to the complaint. The victim stated that after the incident, some clothes and miscellaneous items were missing.

White is currently in the Southwestern Regional Jail on an $18,000 10% and surety bond.
