(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Robert Lewis Dear, the man accused of killing three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs in 2015 can be forced to take antipsychotic medication, upholding a federal judge’s ruling.

“The decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10 th Circuit to uphold a federal judge’s ruling to forcibly medicate Robert Dear affects Mr. Dear’s federal case exclusively,” wrote Kate Singh, Senior Public Affairs Specialist with the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. “However, our office is closely monitoring the federal case in hopes that, after it concludes, Mr. Dear’s state case will also move forward – in the wake of years of delays due to competency issues.”

Dear is charged with allegedly killing three people and wounding eight others at a Planned Parenthood, but his trial has been delayed for years because he has repeatedly been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.
