GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – From boating to archery, local students are learning all about outdoor recreation during an annual summer camp.

The camp is taking place at Shakamak State Park.

About 150 campers, plus counselors, are taking part this week from Vigo, Sullivan, Clay, Owen and Daviess Counties.

Kevin Cross, Agriculture and 4-H Extension Educator for Purdue Extension Sullivan County, says 4-H members look forward to this camp every year.

“This is an opportunity not only [for] our youngest campers in third grade but our oldest campers, our oldest camp directors in 12th grade,” Cross said. “This is something that all 4-H members can do and I think that’s really unique to give them an opportunity to do this, but also be a part of the 4-H program.”

He adds many of the campers who take part return year after year and even go on to eventually become camp counselors.
