Despite years of propaganda from the Left and the media , people are increasingly rejecting radical gender ideology. According to a recent poll from the Pew Research Center, 65% of registered voters say that gender is determined by “sex assigned at birth.” In 2017, that number was just 53%. The rise in the belief that sex determines gender is a bipartisan trend and is reflected in other results from the poll. For example, only 43% of voters are comfortable with using “gender-neutral” pronouns such as “they/them.”

A different study from last year found that young people have had the largest shift against gender ideology. In 2021, only 43% of Generation Z said that there were only two genders. By 2023, it was 57%. Almost every single group, whether broken down by politics, religion, age, or race, has strengthened its belief in biological reality. This begs the question of why modern gender theories are being so thoroughly rejected.

The most simple answer is that they are not true: A man cannot become a woman, and no amount of surgeries, hormones, pronouns, or social affirmation can change that fact. While this has been questioned in recent years, a strengthening majority of people are standing for the truth.

The public is waking up to the negative consequences of rejecting the gender binary. Male participation in women’s sports is perhaps the clearest example. When a man beats a woman in a race or a teenage boy gives a girl a concussion, the objective biological differences between the two sexes are so obvious that someone would need to be willfully ignorant to look past them.

Moreover, as the conversation around gender transition treatments shifted to children, many people clearly recognized them as child abuse. As men have been sentenced to women's prisons, historical figures have been retroactively referred to as transgender, movies and television shows are forced to include LGBT themes, and teenage boys are allowed into girls’ locker rooms, most people see the destructive nature of the transgender movement.

While the trends are moving in the right direction, a lot of work still needs to be done to restore some semblance of a traditional understanding of gender. While an increasing number of Democrats are rejecting radical gender theories, they are still in the minority in their party. Furthermore, the amount of institutional power that is held by those who reject the gender binary is still concerning. For example, one-third of public school teachers think that children should be taught that someone’s gender can be different from their biological sex.

It is too early for conservatives to declare victory on issues of gender and sex, but the positive trends undeniably provide a glimmer of hope.
