    WV IJDC announces $40 million for sewer and water projects across the state

    CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — The West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council announced $40 million in funding for sewer and water projects around the state at a meeting on June 5, 2024. Below are the details of the projects these funds will go to.

    Hancock County Public Service District (PSD)

    The council approved a grant of $6.5 million to the Hancock County PSD for renovations and improvements to its sewer system as well as the Newell system. The funds, along with funding from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Hancock County Commission and other funding sources, provide $25.6 million for the projects.

    City of Kenova

    The council approved a grant of $165,000 and a loan of $2.6 million to the city of Kenova in Wayne County for water system improvements. The funds, along with funds from the U.S. Economic Development Authority (USEDA), the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Wayne County Commission and other programs, provide $8.6 million for the improvement project.

    Town of Masontown

    The council approved a grant of $602,500 to the town of Masontown in Preston County for improvements to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The funds, along with funds from the CWSRF and Preston County Commission, provide $1.3 million for the project.

    Mingo County PSD

    The council approved a grant of $500,00 to the Mingo County PSD for improvements to the Chattaroy sewer system. The funds, along with funds from the USACE, the CWSRF and other programs, provide $5.9 million for this project.

    Town of Paw Paw

    The council approved a grant of $1 million to the town of Paw Paw in Morgan County for improvements to its water system. The funds, along with those from the Drinking Water Treatment Revolving Fund (DWTRF), provide $3.7 million for the project.

    Town of Pineville

    The council approved a grant of $1 million and a loan of $632,000 to the town of Pineville in Wyoming County for improvements to its water system and an extension to Brenton and Baileysville to serve 254 homes. The funds, along with funds from the DWTRF, the USEDA, the Abandoned Mine Lands (AML), the Wyoming County Commission, the town of Pineville and other funding sources, provide $18.3 million for the projects.

    Tomlinson PSD

    The council approved a grant of $403,643 to the Tomlinson PSD in Hancock County for improvements to the Newell water system. The funds, along with those from the DWTRF, the Hancock County Commission and other funding programs, provide $12.7 million for the project.

    City of Weirton

    The council approved a grant of $165,000 and a loan of $14.7 million to the City of Weirton in Hancock County for improvements to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The funds, along with funding from the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS), CDS Match, the Hancock County Commission, the city of Weirton, and other programs, provide $44.3 million for the project.

    Town of West Union

    The council approved a grant of $1 million to the town of West Union for improvements to the water system. The funds, along with funding from the DWTRF, Doddridge County Commission, the town of West Union and other programs, provide $24.5 million for the project.

    Big Bend PSD

    The council approved a grant of $454,000 to the Big Bend PSD in Summers County for improvements to its sewer system. The funding, along with funds from the CWSRF, provide $2.8 million for this project.

    Town of Capon Bridge

    The council approved a grant of $875,000 to the town of Capon Bridge in Hampshire County for improvements to the sewer system. The funds, along with funding from the CWSRF, provide $1.8 million for the project.

    Central Hampshire PSD

    The council approved a grant of $1 million to the Central Hampshire PSD in Hampshire County for improvements to its sewer system. The funds, along with funding received by the USDA, the CWSRF, the Hampshire County Commission and other programs, provide $9.9 million for the project.

    Town of Grant Town

    The council approved a grant of $1 million to the town of Grant Town in Marion County for improvements to its water system. The funds, along with those from the DWTRF, provide $2.6 million for the project.

    Manchin announces nearly $1 million in funding for improvements for Greenbrier County Economic Development and BridgeValley Community and Technical College

    Greater Harrison PSD

    The council approved a grant of $1 million and a loan of $7.2 million to the Greater Harrison PSD in Harrison County for an extension of their sewer system to 415 homes in or near the community of Quiet Dell. These funds, along with funds from CWSRF, Harrison County Commission, and other programs, provide $25 million for this project.

    City of Kingwood

    The council approved a grant of $500,000 to the city of Kingwood in Preston County for improvements to the sewer system. The funds, along with funding from the USACE, the CWSRF, the city of Kingwood and other programs, provide $7.7 million for the project.

    Logan County PSD

    The council approved a $200,000 grant and a loan of $200,000 to the Logan County PSD for a telemetry system replacement for its water system.

    Town of Nutter Fort

    The council approved a grant of $1 million to the town of Nutter Fort in Harrison County for an extension of their sewer system, to 100 homes in or near the community of Chub Run. The Funds, along with funds from CWSRF and other programs, provide $5.5 million for this project.

    City of Pennsboro

    The council approved a grant of $1 million to the city of Pennsboro for improvements to the water system. The funds, along with funding from the DWTRF and other programs, provide $5.5 million for the project

    Sun Valley PSD

    The council approved a grant of $500,000 grant to the Sun Valley PSD in Harrison County for an extension of sewer service to 295 homes in Marion and Fletcher Heights. The funds, along with funding sourced from CWSRF and other funding programs, provide $5 million for the project.

    City of Wheeling

    The council approved a loan of $3 million to the city of Wheeling in Ohio County for rehabilitation of the sewer system due to flooding.

    In addition to funding for these projects, the council also approved reviews and requests to pursue funds for five more sewer and water projects. The granting of these reviews and requests assists cities, municipalities, and public service districts save taxpayer money and keep projects moving. The five projects that were approved are as follows:

    Buffalo Creek PSD: Greeville/Landville extension and WWTP improvements estimated to cost $14.5 million

    Flatwoods Canoe Run PSD: Water system renovations project to cost $2.4 million

    Town of Terra Alta: Water system improvements projected to cost $2 million

    Town of Worthington: Water system improvements estimated to cost $4.8 million

    City of Thomas: Water system improvements estimated to cost $5.5 million
