Members of the Decatur County Commissioners met for their first meeting of the month on Tuesday morning. Following the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, the commissioners heard from a Ms. Livingston during the public participation portion of the meeting, inquiring about having the ditches in front of her property being dug. Commissioner Bobby Barber assured her that the county road crews would get to her ditches once the road had dried out enough.

Following this, the commissioners approved the minutes from the previous meeting.

Next on the agenda, they entered into a public hearing regarding a community development block grant (CDBG) project. According to County Administrator Alan Thomas, the project consisted of a total expense of $881,556.30, and benefitted 79 low-to-moderate-income individuals. The county received $626,421 in grant funding for the project, which was focused on the subdivision off of 309 South.

After exiting the public hearing and returning to regular session, the commissioners approved the new budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

The next item on the agenda was considering approval of the Indigent Defense Services agreement, which Thomas stated was the same as last year, with the total cost being $219,975.32. The commissioners approved the agreement.

An appointment to DFCS was the next item the commissioners considered, that being to appoint Doris Cosby to a new term. The commissioners approved the appointment.

Next, the commissioners approved this month’s errors and release report.

Lastly, the commissioners considered an application for a restaurant license from Norendrakumar Patel, at 3225 Faceville Highway. According to Thomas, Patel has met all the requirements for the application, which the commissioners subsequently approved.

The board of commissioners each gave their closing remarks, and the meeting was adjourned.
