    2024-06-12

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An early Sunday morning encounter in Niagara Falls led to a tense moment when a woman allegedly pointed a pellet gun at officers. Police provided details of the incident on Tuesday.

The situation unfolded around 9:40 a.m. on the 1900 block of Niagara Street. Officers were called to the scene after receiving reports of a woman brandishing what looked like a handgun.

Upon arrival, officers identified the woman, who was indeed holding what appeared to be a firearm. When she allegedly pointed the gun at one of the officers, he responded by firing four shots. Fortunately, none of the shots struck the woman. She then dropped the weapon, which was later discovered to be a CO2 pellet gun, and she was promptly taken into custody.

Niagara Falls police confirmed that the officer involved had his body camera activated during the incident.

The woman is now facing a charge of second-degree menacing. Her identity has not been disclosed, as the investigation remains ongoing.
