    Photo contest celebrates National Park and Recreation Month

    Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation is celebrating National Park and Recreation Month in July with a photo contest.

    People have until Tuesday to share photographs of Pitt County residents participating in recreation-based activities at Alice Keene Park, 4561 County Home Road, or at their child’s designated volleyball or soccer location coordinated by Community Schools and Recreation.

    The photos will be used in publications and on social media during Park & Recreation Month to celebrate and recognize how the community utilizes parks and recreational opportunities to remain active and make meaningful connections with others, the program said.

    “Recreation is an important resource with the ability to bring people together with a unified goal and increase overall health by being active,” said Jennifer Lanier-Coward, associate director of Community Schools and Recreation.

    Pictures should be e-mailed to jennifer.lanier-coward@pittcountync.gov. They will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize.

    First place: Two free youth fall sports registrations for 2024 programs or Greenville-Pitt County Senior Games registration for 2025.Second place: One free fall sports registration for 2024 programs or Greenville-Pitt County Senior Games registration for 2025.Third place: A sports kit with balls and equipment.

    How to participate:

    Visit the Alice Keene District Park, 4561 County Home Road to walk, jog or play.Visit your child’s designated volleyball or soccer location, coordinated by Community Schools and Recreation, and support them during their experience.Visit a school playground 6-8 p.m. Monday-Friday or 6 a.m.-8 p.m. weekends.Utilize other recreation-based facilities to play a sport, socialize or exercise.Take a picture of you and/or your family participating in one of the above.Write one or two sentences on how parks and recreation has improved your life.

    “We challenge residents to get out in the open spaces or other spaces that allows them to feel free, laugh, increase strength and stamina, and where they feel included,” said Lanier-Coward.

    The public can visit www.pittcsr.com for program information and registration.

    Fall/winter program registration opened Monday.
