Digital tablets can be great productivity devices, but can they also be canvases for artists and creatives? The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S PaperMatte certainly can thanks to first-of-its-kind new display tech that provides a realistic pen-on-paper feel designed to compete with dedicated professional drawing tablets.

On the one hand, the MatePad 11.5"S is a perfectly proportioned productivity tool. With an aspect ratio of 3:2, a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and 2.8K resolution (2800 × 1840), its technical specs are impressive. But the new generation PaperMatte Display takes things further. The display is nano-etched for a paperlike texture, and it reduces ambient light reflections up to 99%, making it comfortable to use in almost any environment.

Combined with the new 3rd Generation M-Pencil, the result is a smooth and inspiring drawing experience. And if you order the Inbox Keyboard version from the Huawei Store between 4 June and 2 July, you can get the Huawei M-Pencil for free (more info below).

    A tablet for any situation

The new PaperMatte Display combines nanoscale anti-glare etching with nanoscale magnetron optical coating and multi-layer diffusion technology to reduce surface reflectivity below 2% and eliminate 99% of light interference. The result is an immersive, high-resolution visual experience with a vibrant colour display that's usable in brightly-lit indoor environments and even outside in the sunshine. Wherever you find yourself, you can read, work, watch videos and create without the distraction of glare from reflected light.

Recreate the experience of drawing on paper

The PaperMatte Display also provides a paperlike reading, writing and drawing experience. The distinct texture created by the nanostructures etched into the surface of the screen causes a slight resistance when using a stylus like the HUAWEI M-Pencil 3rd generation (sold separately). Recalling the gentle friction of a pencil on paper, this comfortable, earthy sensation feels natural and inspires the urge to create.

The tablet also has Colour mode, in which a proprietary algorithm adjusts the mapping between screen brightness, hue, and colour temperature for both aesthetic benefits and greater eye comfort. Simply enable this mode and, whether you’re reading a comic book or newspaper, you can enjoy the soft hues of ink on paper.

More sensitivity for finer artistic control

The ideal companion for the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S PaperMatte is the HUAWEI M-Pencil (3rd generation), which is optimised to deliver a smoother writing and drawing experience. Factory calibrated before shipment, it’s the first stylus featuring a NearLink chip with a high-precision pressure sampling module that can sense the slightest change in force exerted on the pen.

Compared with Bluetooth, NearLink technology is six times more pressure sensitive in terms of both collection frequency and sending frequency. Coupled with high packet transmission rates, this makes the HUAWEI M-Pencil (3rd generation) the first-ever stylus to support 10,000+ pressure sensing levels, for quicker responsiveness and more sensitive control of line thickness, and cleaner strokes.

Proprietary software that allows creation whenever inspiration strikes

For the smoothest experience, HUAWEI has its own apps that allow users to truly take advantage of the tablet’s new capabilities. For efficient note taking, HUAWEI Notes boasts a new Note Replay that allows users to simply touch any note to play back audio from the corresponding part of the meeting. There are also new quick gestures that allow users to make notes the moment inspiration hits.

For art, the new GoPaint app works with the HUAWEI M-Pencil (3rd generation) to provide a drawing and painting experience that can rival professional digital drawing tablets. Experts from top fine arts academies and Huawei 2012 Laboratories R&D teams from eight domains collaborated to ensure the app has the features that creatives need, including professional-grade rendering, fast compositing, and efficient use of storage thanks to HUAWEI FangTian Painting Engine.

The latter lightens the load on system resources and raises the ceiling on the number of layers a file can contain, freeing you to create without the hindrance of technical limitations. There are 100+ preset brushes, 70+ brush settings and the ability to create custom brushes for even more artistic flexibility. The app supports smart interactions to make working smooth and efficient, and it's completely free for all HUAWEI MatePad owners.

The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5"S is a groundbreaking new tablet that covers all bases: work, learning, entertainment and artistic creation all in one device. It’s also exceptionally affordable, priced at just £449.99 with the Inbox keyboard and £349.99 for the tablet alone. Order the Inbox Keyboard version on the HUAWEI UK store between 4 June and 2 July and you can pick up the 3rd Generation Huawei M-pencil for free.
