The Stanly County Community Foundation recently awarded more than $44,000 in grants this year to 15 nonprofits. The grants will support projects and programs that address investment areas of arts and culture, education, health, housing and shelter human services, and youth development.

The Foundation chose grants from organizations and programs that strive to increase stability and opportunity for individuals and families in Stanly County.

Grants from this cycle include $5,000 to Stanly Community Christian Ministry to provide crisis assistance for families and individuals in Stanly County, $4,000 to Uwharrie Players for their theatre performances for Stanly County elementary schools and $4,766 to Homes of Hope for materials to repair two of their transitional housing units.

Stanly County Community Foundation is a regional affiliate of Charlotte-based Foundation For The Carolinas, and the grants are awarded by the local Stanly County Community Foundation Board of Advisors.

“The Stanly County Community Foundation is proud to stand with our local non-profits, providing the support they need to continue their extraordinary work,” said Brooke Senter, chair of the SCCF board of advisors. “This year’s grants reflect our ongoing commitment to addressing the growing needs of our community and fostering a brighter future for all.”

One recipient of grant funds this year was Least of These Carolinas, which assists children who enter foster care.
“Thanks to the Stanly County Community Foundation grant, we are thrilled to provide every child in foster care in Stanly County with a Bag of Hope this year,” said Susanna Kavanaugh, Least of These Carolinas executive director. “Each personalized duffel bag, embroidered with the child’s name, includes essential items like clothes, toys, a blanket and a stuffed animal, offering comfort and a sense of belonging during this challenging time.”

Tammy Albertson, executive director of the nonprofit Raising A Reader, a 2024 grant recipient, expressed her gratitude to the Stanly County Community Foundation.

“The Raising a Reader program supports families to build, practice and grow reading routines at home,” she said. “Research shows that family book sharing is a predictor of early literacy success and future educational achievement. This goes along with the vision of Stanly County Partnership for Children as we want all Stanly County children entering school ready to succeed.”
