Real Housewives Stars as Golden Girls Characters

If you have never heard of the classic sitcom Golden Girls , you must first educate yourself. The premise revolved around four older women living together in Miami as they experienced the highs and lows of their golden years. The show was a hit between lusty Blanche, strong-willed Dorothy, airy fairy Rose, and old-school Sophia. Fans learned what it was to be friends early on. So, if push came to shove, who in the Real Housewives universe would fit each character?

Rose Nylund

No other housewife springs to mind than Whitney Rose . The youngest of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has had her fair of space moments. So, it isn’t surprising that many followers fast forward through her storyline moments. Just like Rose, Whitney is a bit of a cornball. I don’t doubt that Whitney is bright, but she often overcompensates by acting as if she is emotionally evolved. However, just like our sweet Rose, I do think Whitney has a heart of gold which usually always shines through even the toughest of situations.

Blanche Devereaux

I swear, Sonja Morgan would flirt with driftwood if it would give her a bit of attention. Just like Blanche, Sonja always knew how to use her looks to get ahead. Sonja, like the Atlanta-born Blanche, was also very sensitive. Even though at times she may try not to show it, she cared when she was stood up, which was very rare. The two share the same personality traits, which include being fun-loving, outgoing, and promiscuous.

Sophia Petrillo

The matriarch of the Golden Girls was fierce and loyal to a fault, much like Dolores Catania , who is the muscle of the Real Housewives of New Jersey . Both are the OG queens who know exactly how to put those around them in their place. Sophia was often stuck in the old traditional Italian way of thinking, much like Dolores. Even though Sophia once said, “Sticks and stones might break your bones, but cement pays homage to tradition,” I can imagine Dolo also saying something similar to the Bravo cameras.

Dorothy Zbornak

For me, Dorothy was perhaps the hardest character to match. She was a strong-willed teacher who didn’t back down from doing the right thing. After a bit of thinking, Kim Fields came to mind. Just like Dorothy, Kim was cut above the rest and probably not meant for reality TV. She took every moment she had to try and educate the ladies, like at her beatless brunch. Kim shared with viewers that she loved to read and travel. She was also seen as the boring ATL housewife, and sadly, Dorothy could often be seen staying home alone, too, as her friends went out on the town.

Where do the Golden Girls fit in?

Now, it is only fair to try to figure out where Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia will end up in their own franchise city. It is a hard question to ponder, but I think I have figured it out. Blanche would be put either into the Real Housewives of Atlanta due to her deep Southern roots or the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills .

Sophia would undoubtedly blend right into the Real Housewives of New Jersey. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that Teresa Giudice would go crazy not being able to intimidate her. I can easily see Sophia and Margaret Josephs bonding over tossing naughty husbands into the pool. Picture it: Sophia walking hand in hand with Marge, noting, “Your husband’s in the pool.” Priceless.

Rose would have to be on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City mainly because it is the closest she’ll get to St. Olaf. It often feels like many of the current housewives may have also been raised in the Midwestern town. I imagine Rose and Whitney just talking for hours about nothing.

Lastly, Dorothy would probably do quite well staying in Miami. The city is vibrant, though I doubt she would agree with the state’s current political climate, especially as an educator. I first thought the Real Housewives of New York , but I dare say Luann de Lesseps and Sonja would drive her mad.
