Potential heatwave next week in Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Temperatures have been comfortable across western Massachusetts but that will likely all change come next week.

So far this month, temperatures have been around average but there is a potential for the first heatwave of the summer next week from Tuesday to Friday. All guidance continues to show the heat from out west moving east over the coming days that could bring temperatures in the 90s with heat index values around 100 degrees next week.

This is all because of the fluctuation in the jet stream as high pressure continues to build. The desert southwest in the United States has been seeing extreme heat but as this jet stream lifts here in the east, this will allow that heat to come towards the East Coast giving us our first potential heatwave.
