'My husband had to dress in hotel staff clothes on our honeymoon as Delta Airlines lost his luggage'

A newlywed husband had to spend his honeymoon dressed as the resort staff while waiting for his luggage to arrive.

Bailey and Shane Hasty decided to celebrate their marriage in Saint Lucia. They flew with Delta Airlines from Dallas on June 3, planning to spend eight days in the Caribbean.

Once they got to the airport, however, they were shocked to learn Shane’s luggage was nowhere to be found. Bailey said airport staff spent hours searching for it, but they couldn’t find it anywhere.

They didn’t want to miss out on their trip waiting for his luggage, so they decided to head to the hotel without it. They were staying at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Resort.

While they waited, Shane had no choice but to borrow clothes from the hotel employees. They kept calling Delta in the meantime to check about his luggage turning up.

Bailey, from Venice Beach in Los Angeles, said: "It felt like I was walking around with a hotel employee when he had his hotel merch on. It was hilarious.

"We were laughing the whole time. He was walking through the whole resort in his gear and I felt like he was getting some funny looks.

"No one thought that he was actually working there but I felt like he looked like an employee.” Apparently, Shane even had to “go commando” and not wear any underwear, because there wasn’t anywhere nearby that sold it.

"He didn't get any underwear as they didn't have this. There was only one shop at the resort and it didn't sell it so he had to go without underwear. That was a kicker. He had to buy swim shorts so he could wear them but had no underwear.”

Though they were frustrated by the experience, the situation will be a hilarious memory for the couple. After three days, they were able to track down the suitcase. It had never been put on the plane.

Bailey said: "My mother-in-law finally got someone on the phone in Atlanta which was where our layover was. She was able to find the suitcase and get it sent out to us. It had got stuck in Dallas so they [Delta Airlines] never put it on the flight."

A spokesperson for Delta Airlines said: "Delta teams are looking into what occurred and stand ready to contact them to make this right – we are sorry to hear of this disruption to their honeymoon plans."
