Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tore into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) during a floor debate on Wednesday, but some of her criticism flew in the face of what was actually in the bill – a fact her Democratic colleagues were happy to point out.

“If we’re going to spend more money on our Department of Defense on our NDAA, why don’t we pay military recruits more money instead of paying for electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging stations?” raged Greene, who also introduced an amendment to ban the Pentagon from using funds on electric cars or charging stations.

“That is an embarrassment, and I think it’s an insult to the American people,” Greene added in comments that quickly went viral online.

Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-VA) spoke soon after Greene and quickly shut down Greene’s complaint.

“Madam Chair and Ranking Member Smith, I have good news and that is the NDAA does include a raise for our service members, which is long overdue, but we can multitask,” McClellan replied.

The Hill’s Emily Brooks noted that this year’s NDAA could look different from years past, where the House usually passes an appropriations measure with bipartisan support.

“Culture war amendments that could be added to the House’s mammoth annual defense bill threaten to turn the normally bipartisan measure into a partisan one, potentially complicating its path to final approval and creating headaches for GOP leaders down the line,” Brooks explained of this year’s process.
