Cruise Experts List Common 'Sea Day' Mistakes They Wish People Would Stop Making

There are so many different cruise itineraries, ships, and cruise lines that you're almost guaranteed not to ever take the same cruise twice (unless you want to, that is). But regardless of how distinct each cruise can be, most usually have the same elements like themed nights on the ship, days docked in a port that are perfect for exploring and/or lounging on a beach, and sea days, which are days that the cruise ship is out there in the ocean, and you're left to find fun things to do on board.

For some, this can be a bit boring, but if that's the case, you might be doing it all wrong — at least, according to these cruise experts. Some people might get a bit stir crazy while at sea, but with a few tips, you can make your next day at sea even better. This is valuable stuff!

This advice comes to us by way of a video shared by @eatsleepcruise earlier this month. If you're looking for something truly thorough, this is great information to have; if you don't have 14 minutes to spare, I'll hit the highlights for you!

The video outlines the 10 mistakes that many people make during a sea day, and some of them can really make or break your vacation. For example, if you're hoping for a pool day and sleep late, you might just miss your shot at a lounge chair. Plus, you'll lose out on valuable time you could be spending doing activities on board.

They also recommend against using a sea day for a spa appointment — that's what everyone else is planning to do, so instead, hit the spa on a day when the ship is in port.

And while you might be tempted to spend the whole day outside, don't sleep on the indoor activities, either — some cruise ships have cool games to participate in, bowling alleys, and more that you might be missing out on if you stay by the pool.

Making the Most of Your Day at Sea

While this advice is good food for thought, ultimately, only one thing matters most when it comes to spending your sea day: What you want to do.

If you're exhausted from traveling and you know the rest of your cruise will be more enjoyable if you do sleep in or take a nice afternoon nap, do that. If your day at sea is the only possible day you can fit the spa in and you're willing to battle the crowds, do that!

On the last cruise I took, I spent the sea day in full relaxation mode, and it was exactly what I needed after a few days of packed activities. A reservation for brunch at one of the ship's signature restaurants, followed by a nice, long nap and an evening eating snacks and drinking cocktails while my kid had the time of her life in the splash pad? Not too shabby!

The cruise experience can be so tailored to your individual interests, which is why it's such a versatile vacation. Don't miss out on what you want to do!
