Basketball Hall of Fame member and legendary Los Angeles Lakers player and executive Jerry West passed away at age 86 on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. West's contributions to the NBA were far-reaching with few comparisons.

In his 14 years as a player, West was a 14-time NBA All-Star, 12-time All-NBA team selection, five-time NBA All-Defensive team selection, 1969-70 NBA scoring champion, 1971-72 NBA assist champion, 1968-69 NBA Finals MVP, 1971-72 NBA All-Star Game MVP, and 1972 NBA Champion.

Off the court, West was an eight-time champion as a front-office executive, earning six NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers and two with the Golden State Warriors. West was also a two-time winner of the NBA Executive of the year award in 1995 and 2004.

Michael Jordan on Jerry West's Legacy

Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan released a statement on Jerry West's passing through Estee Portnoy , SVP of Jordan's Family Office.

“I am so deeply saddened at the news of Jerry’s passing. He was truly a friend and mentor - like an older brother to me. I valued his friendship and knowledge. I always wished I could have played against him as a competitor, but the more I came to know him, I wish I had been his teammate. I admired his basketball insights and he and I shared many similarities to how we approached the game. He will be forever missed! My condolences to his wife, Karen and his sons. RIP, Logo.”
