They have won the conference in back-to-back seasons and three of the last five. They have been a stalwart in the second weekend of the NCAA tournament, having made the Sweet 16 in five of the last seven NCAA tournaments. The reason Barnes isn’t higher on this list is that the tournament success hasn’t always been there. They have only made one Elite Eight and haven’t seen the Final Four under Barnes.Tennessee’s floor is always high, and you can always bet on them winning a game or two in March, but unfortunately Barnes’ teams tend to have a lower ceiling than other great coaches.6- Scott Drew, BaylorThe job Scott Drew has done in turning around Baylor basketball is honestly astonishing and something straight out of a Disney film. He is a national champion and Baylor is consistently one of the best teams in the country. So why isn’t Drew higher?Baylor has only made three-second weekends in the last decade. Outside of their special 2021 national championship team, they haven’t made an Elite Eight since 2012 and there hasn’t been another Final Four. So Drew is a great coach with a national championship ring, so he has a floor on this list, but I also believe some of these coaches are having more consistent success.5- Nate Oats, AlabamaNate Oats has turned Alabama into an absolute machine. They are utilizing every available tool to win basketball games. Oats is finding five-star freshmen alongside the top transfers in the game to formulate one of the best programs in the country.Alabama has made three Sweet 16s in the last four years and are coming off the first Final Four in program history. They will also enter 2024 as a preseason top three team with a legitimate chance to win it all.4- Kelvin Sampson, HoustonKelvin Sampson is the most underrated coach in college basketball. Since joining Houston in 2014, the Cougars have become one of the nation’s strongest programs.They have made the Sweet 16 in five straight tournaments, multiple Elite Eights, and a Final Four appearance. There is a strong chance that had Jamal Shead not gotten hurt against Duke, Houston finds their way back to the Final Four this past season.He hasn’t won a national championship yet, but I believe it is just a matter of time before Sampson gets his jewelry.3- Mark Few, GonzagaMark Few has built one of the most consistent programs in the country. Some like to clown on them because of the conference they play in, but those that do simply aren’t paying attention to how good this team is.Few has led Gonzaga to NINE straight Sweet 16s. N-I-N-E. That is incredible and something that no other program can say. Gonzaga has also made five Elite Eights, two Final Fours, and have finished as the national runner-up both times.It doesn’t matter what conference you’re in if you are putting up elite tournament production like Mark Few has. His program is good, healthy and consistent year in and year out.2- Bill Self, Kansas24 months ago, most would have told you Bill Self is the best coach in college basketball, and he still has an argument. However, he lands at second on this list.Self’s resume over the last 20 years speaks for itself. 11 Sweet 16s, nine Elite Eights, four Final Fours, and three national championships.Heading into 2024, Kansas will be one of the favorites to cut down the nets in San Antonio in the 2025 Final Four.1- Dan Hurley, UConnHow can anyone other than the back-to-back champion be at the top of this list?Dan Hurley has turned UConn into a juggernaut in Storrs. In the last two NCAA tournaments, there hasn’t been a team that can compete for 40 minutes. Hurley’s program has just been on another level over the last couple of years, and there is no sign of it slowing down now.UConn will once again be one of the favorites to win the national championship, despite nobody three-peating since John Wooden’s UCLA teams won seven straight in the late 60s and early 70s.</div></body>
