In the world of baby naming , some parents play the waiting game to see if their newborn fits the chosen name, while others have a favorite picked out long before the stork's arrival. One woman took to Reddit's bad baby name forum to express her eternal thanks to her mom for saving her from what she considered a 'cringe' name her dad was set on.

Now 35, she recounted that even in the '80s and '90s, parents sometimes chose names that were embarrassing or oddly spelled. She shared: "Cringe names existed in the 80s and 90s as well. My dad told me this little fact like as if he expected me to like it. He genuinely thought I'd like the name he wanted to name me."

Reflecting on her narrow escape from an unwanted name, she said, "I think this serves as a symbol of his connection with his daughter, and mother's intuition. I felt like I dodged a bullet. I am a case of the apple that fell from the tree, picked up momentum, and kept rolling, and he was blissfully unaware."

"My mum wanted to name me Emily. It's sensible, simple, sweet, and harmless. It would honestly suit me, my name is quite parallel to Emily, it too is sensible, simple, sweet, and harmless. My dad, however? He wanted to name me Bobby Joe."

"If you took a look at me, you'd never see a Bobby Joe. Not even a BJ (asking to be bullied right there), Bobby, or a Jojo. I feel like having that name, I'd be legally required to live in a southern state, watch NASCAR as a pastime, and my only housing option would be a double-wide (no hate on people who live in them, to be honest)."

"Luckily, my mum vetoed that real hard, and claims she even told him 'She's not a Bobby Joe'. Because dear lord, I very much so am not. That's when I decided if I ever have a kid, I am just giving them a safe name."

People reading the hilarious post quickly agreed with the woman's sentiments with many offering their own near misses of awful names. One user replied: "My mum was dead set on naming me Bambi. Of course, she was also upset about the fact she'd be giving birth to a human baby and not a coffee table so take that as you will."

Someone else added: "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID BOBBY JOE. I'm the same age as you and my Dad wanted to name me Bobby Joe! I was not expecting that when I opened this post! Are we sisters? What a small world. My mum wanted to name me Gypsy Rain which is even worse. They settled on a total 80s name but super normal thank god."

And a third person admitted: "I'm in my 40s, and I know a Bobbyjo, who willingly goes by BJ. It's so very hard not to snigger like a child."
