Florence town clerk leads of international association

Florence’s town clerk is now heading up an international association of municipal clerks.

Lisa Garcia has been officially sworn in as the president of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks for the 2024-25 term.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on May 22, in Calgary, Canada. She will lead the group until May 2025.

"I am deeply honored to serve as the president of the IIMC," Garcia stated in a press release. “This organization plays a crucial role in fostering professional development and excellence among municipal clerks worldwide. I look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence and innovation."

In her role as president, Garcia aims to enhance the IIMC’s mission of promoting professional development and practices among municipal clerks. She plans to introduce new initiatives focused on education, leadership and global outreach, ensuring that members have access to the resources and networks necessary for their professional growth, the release stated.

She thanked the mayor, town council, coworkers and Florence residents for their support and help.

"My colleagues and the wonderful citizens of Florence have been instrumental to this endeavor. Their support and dedication have been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for their continuous encouragement,” Garcia stated in the release. "I would not be here today without the support and encouragement of my mayor and town council. Their trust in my abilities has been a significant driving force in my career."

Garcia will work with the IIMC board of directors, executive director, staff and its members to address contemporary challenges and harness opportunities for the advancement of municipal clerks.

IIMC is a professional, nonprofit association that promotes the advancement of municipal clerks through education and professional development. Founded in 1947, IIMC has grown to include members from municipalities worldwide.
