A MOTHER called the sentence given to the socialite who killed her two sons in a hit-and-run too light, slamming the judge for lumping her boys together.
Nancy Iskander slammed the sentence given to the woman who killed her two sons in a hit-and-run four years ago AP Mark and Jacob Iskander were crossing the street with their mother and younger brother on September 29, 2020, when they were fatally struck Getty Rebecca Grossman was sentenced to 15 years to life for the killings, however, prosecutors were pushing for the maximum sentence of 34 years to life Getty
Prosecutors pushed for Grossman to receive the maximum sentence of 34 years to life, however, Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino disagreed.
The boy’s mother, Nancy Iskander, believes Judge Brandolino gave Grossman a lighter sentence, saying he “lumped” the two boys together in his ruling.
“The 15 to life was a stab in my heart,” the mother told ABC affiliate KABC-TV .
“In two different ways: The first way was that he lumped both boys as if they were one. And they were not.”
Iskander described the ruling as “extremely unfair,” saying Jacob and Mark were two different people.
“If you ask any parent, they will tell you their kids are not the same person. They’re different. They have two different personalities,” she said.
“Especially kids who had their whole lives in front of them. You can’t count them two for one.”
The two reached each other, reaching speeds of up to 81 miles per hour.
“Had (Grossman) been maybe a little less drunk or maybe paying attention a little bit, she could’ve avoided one of them,” said Iskander.
“Jacob only needed one step, one more step exactly to survive and not be hit by her car.”
During her sentencing, Grossman spoke directly to the Iskander family , saying she “would give my life” to bring Mark and Jacob back.
“I am so, so sorry. I’ve wanted to talk to you for so long. I’m sorry that did not happen,” the socialite said.
“I didn’t flee. My car turned off. My pain is nothing compared to your pain. I’m so sorry for what happened to you.”
Before the apology, Iskander stood up and started to leave the courtroom, believing that she would hear insincere words, but Grossman begged her to stay and the mother returned to her seat.
Timeline of Rebecca Grossman's wrongdoing
Sixty-year-old Rebecca Grossman is currently being held in Los Angeles County jail.

January 16, 2024: Trial against Grossman begins in Los Angeles County
February 23, 2024: Grossman is found guilty of two felony counts of murder and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence
June 10, 2024 : Grossman is sentenced to 15 years to life for the boys’ deaths
“I just wanted to be a human being and talk to you parent to parent, mother to mother. I wanted to leave this world. I didn’t want to be here anymore,” said Grossman.
“I promise I never saw anyone. I believe God knows the truth.”
However, Iskander didn’t mince words when asked why she tried to leave.
“I’ll first tell you what made me leave my seat. I expected her to be her: Not genuine, not true, not sorry,” she told reporters.
Iskander stayed, saying she wanted to hear Grossman out because she believed the socialite may have changed.
“But as soon as she started talking it was exactly what I expected. It was not real. It was not I’m sorry I killed them. It was I’m sorry for your loss.”
Iskander said that along with her sons, Grossman also killed a part of her.
“When your child dies, you die. I have no doubt: Part of me is dead. And it’s dead because of her. And I have to function and take care of little kids while I’m half-dead,” the mother said.
She added that the sentencing was the “hardest day of the whole trial” almost comparable to the day her boy’s died.
Grossman could be eligible for parole in as little as nine years.
“All I can say about that is that I hope nine years is enough time for her heart to change. I’m not sure,” said Iskander.
Iskander said hearing the sentence was painful and the death of her boys has left her ‘half-dead’ AP Grossman (center) tearfully apologized to the Iskander family in court but the boys’ mother felt her words were insincere Getty
