CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — More than $2 million was approved for people in the Mountain State who were affected by the severe weather at the beginning of April 2024.

The funds include more than $1,232,418 million in housing assistance for renters and homeowners who need help with necessary home repairs and temporary housing, and more than $834,805 for other needs, such as childcare, dental and medical costs, and transportation.

Residents of 11 counties affected by the April 2, 2024 through April 6, 2024 storms, including Fayette, Kanawha, Boone, Cabell, Lincoln, Marshall, Nicholas, Ohio, Putnam, Wayne, and Wetzel Counties, will be able to access federal disaster assistance, and more than 1,342 businesses and households registered with FEMA.

I am proud of the hard work and support from at all levels of government and community partners to support those West Virginia residents who were impacted by the April storms. It is great to see FEMA surpass $2 million in assistance to residents to recover. As we all work diligently to continue the mission, we hope the updates to FEMA’s programs have made the recovery process easier for survivors.

The counties affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, and mudslides at the beginning of April 2024 have State and FEMA opened Disaster Recovery Centers, with a reported current total of 306 visitors.
