Hamas Spokesman Insists That Released Israeli Hostages Look ‘Better Than Before’ They Were Held Captive

Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan claimed to CNN on Thursday that the Israeli hostages held captive by Hamas looked “better than before” after being released from captivity.

Asked by CNN senior international correspondent Ben Wedeman how many Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity were still alive, Hamdan replied, “I don’t have any idea about that. No one has any idea about this.”

Wedeman questioned whether Hamas regretted its attack on Oct. 7, 2023 given Israel’s killing of more than 37,000 people in Gaza, the majority of which are women and children, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. Hamdan replied, “We are living with this for the last 75 years as Palestinians.”

“Now, CNN spoke to one of the doctors who treated the four Israelis who were freed on Saturday and he said that they suffered mental and physical abuse,” said Wedeman. “What do you say to that?”

Hamdan replied, “Well, he is an Israeli. He has to say what the Israeli authorities are asking him to say.”

He then argued, “If you compare the images of both before and after releasing, you will find that they were better than before. I believe if they have mental problems, this is because of what Israel have done in Gaza.”
