A royal expert claims this is the royal family’s biggest diva
Meghan Markle has been accused of diva-like behavior since joining the royal family in 2018. There have been multiple reports over the years she has been challenging to work for. Most recently, The Mirror reported that the Duchess of Sussex has trouble finding appropriate staff for her latest venture, American Riviera Orchard.
Meghan is the latest royal family member to be given such a title . However, this House of Windsor member historically took the top crown: Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret.
Speaking on the The Sun’s royal podcast, Jennie Bond shared her thoughts on whom she believes was the biggest diva in the royal family. She said, “I think historically, probably Princess Margaret was. A real diva.”
“She was fantastically grand, fantastically snobbish. And she did tarnish the reputation of the Royal Family with her lifestyle, her broken marriage, bringing divorce into the fold.”
Why was Princess Margaret the royal family’s biggest diva?
A PBS documentary titled Margaret: The Rebel Princess revealed how much Princess Margaret was unlike her more traditional sibling, Queen Elizabeth. She attempted to redefine the image of the modern princess while respecting the family she was born into.
Vanity Fair reported Margaret acted very much like a diva. She greatly enjoyed the benefits and freedoms of being royal.
The publication mentioned Margaret’s infamous trip to the United States in the mid-1960s. Alleged excessive partying received bad press, and Margaret’s antics alongside husband Lord Snowden led the House of Windsor to reportedly ban her from another United States trip in the 1970s.
Christopher Warwick, Princess Margaret’s biographer, told The Telegraph : “Princess Margaret and [husband] Lord Snowdon were the royal family’s representatives of the swinging sixties. They did wave the flag for Britain in 1965, but it’s fair to say that the visit was more pleasure than duty.”
Margaret’s tumultuous love life was also a hot button press topic. She first had an affair with divorced Captain Peter Townsend before marrying photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960. They eventually divorced in 1978 and had two children, Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones.
Therefore, after Margaret’s death in 2002, the royal family diva title remained open until the press coined the Duchess of Sussex as such. However, Meghan never commented on the nickname until someone who embraces the title called her a diva to her face.

Meghan asked Carey if she considered being called a diva a compliment or a criticism. “I think it’s both,” Carey said. “I do.”
“As things evolved the past 20 years—I don’t know numbers—it became a diva. For me, they mean you’re a successful woman, usually. It’s not OK For you to be a boss. It’s not ok for you to be a strong woman. You should be diminutive,” the entertainer continued.
Meghan added that being a diva is “not something I can connect to.” Carey replied, “You give us diva moments sometimes, Meghan.”
Meghan appeared shocked, “I do? What kind of diva moments do I give you?” Carey replied it was “the look.”
Later the pop star tweeted , “Really enjoyed talking to Duchess and Diva Meghan Markle about ‘The Duality of Diva.’ Yes! I called her a diva, in the most fabulous, gorgeous, and empowering meaning of the word!!!”
