When you have an adventurous toddler, you try to keep your eyes on them as much as possible — but every now and then, you have no choice but to turn your back. Unfortunately it only takes about two seconds for an unsupervised tot to get into some serious mischief!

In one recent video, a mom walks into a room to find her toddler son doing something she definitely wasn't expecting: Using the window blinds like rungs on a ladder, the little boy is climbing almost all the way to the ceiling! Even better, in classic toddler fashion, he's laughing like it's the funniest thing in the world.

"A day in the life of Tripp," wrote Rachel Bourgeois . Poor mom must have felt like she was going to have a heart attack ! It's a good thing those window blinds were so sturdy. Commenters were amused by this kid's behavior , but they weren't surprised!

"Fearlessness is unmatched in toddlers," wrote TheMiniBoss || Cessalee.

"Toddlerhood ain't for the weak," wrote Selena Quarantinilla.

"The things my toddler does on a daily basis blows my mind, what are they made out of," wrote Ultrasound Girlie.

At least he was safe ! Judging from the slide and basketball hoop by the window, this kid is the type who's always on the move. (Good luck, mom!)

Why Do Toddlers Love to Climb

As Verywell Family reported, most toddlers start to climb simply "because they can (or at least can try to). Kids start to gain greater control over their body movements at around 18 months of age. They realize they can throw that ball , run fast across the park, and pull themselves up onto furniture."

Climbing is just another way for toddlers to explore and push the boundaries , but some will push farther than others.

"For some children, the inevitable knocks and understandable fear of those high places are enough to keep them from pushing the limits too far. These kids will probably be easily discouraged from climbing by a few firm reminders and demonstrations that chairs are for sitting and bookcases are not steps.

There is another personality type, though, that will not be stopped. For these toddlers and 2-year-olds, climbing is a thrill. They want to flex their muscles and satisfy their curiosity about what's up on the top shelf. Toddlers with older siblings may be even more determined climbers because they are trying to imitate the kids around them."

The goal isn't to stop your toddler from climbing entirely — the activity is actually a great way to build balance, strength, and flexibility, and can help kids to gain confidence. Instead, try to give your child opportunities to climb safely, and keep them as active as possible in general so they don't get antsy and start (literally) climbing the walls. Also make sure that their environment is as safe as possible, securing heavy furniture to the walls and moving large objects from high shelves.

Another tip for parents of climbers: Invest in the sturdiest window blinds you can find!
