'My mother wore a beautiful dress at my wedding – people said she tried to outshine me’

Everyone wants to look beautiful at a wedding, whether it’s the couple, their family or friends. But is there a line you shouldn’t cross, so you don’t upstage the bride? A mother has recently come under fire for the dress she decided to wear to her daughter's wedding .

A TikTok showed Lori DeWitt, 53, walking down the aisle in a green floral gown with a train and plunging neckline. The dress is from Flora on Madison, a New York bridal store. In the TikTok from wedding photographer @CapturedbyChloeCo, Lori struts down the aisle in her elegant gown, as well as poses side-by-side with the bride.

The commenters were perplexed by the mother’s choice of dress, however. Some thought she was overshadowing the bride on her big day. One person wrote: “Beautiful but definitely shadows the plain white dress.”

“Don’t get me wrong she does look stunning in that dress, but it’s a bit much on a day where her daughter's dress should’ve been the star of the show, not saying she has to dress like an old frumpy lady,” another said.

“Am I the only one who thinks the train isn’t appropriate??”

Not everyone shared that opinion. Some thought she should wear whatever makes her feel beautiful during her daughters wedding.

One commenter wrote: “FINALLY a [mother-of-bride] dress that is not frumpy and disgusting looking! MOB Dresses need a drastic overhaul! This dress is stunning.”

“Stunning! I want my mom to shine like this on my wedding day,” a supporter said.
