    National Weather Service issues severe thunderstorm watch for North Jersey

    The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for North Jersey as showers and storms are expected to roll into the region between Friday afternoon and Friday night.

    The watch will be in effect until 9 p.m. and includes North Jersey counties of Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Union, Morris, Warren, Hudson and Sussex.

    As of 5 p.m. Friday the National Weather Service was predicting an 80% chance of precipitation throughout the afternoon and night with showers and thunderstorms occurring mainly before midnight.

    Between a tenth and a quarter inch of rainfall was expected Friday night.

    Thunderstorm warning for Morris, Bergen

    The NWS Mount Holly also issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 6 p.m. for parts of Morris County, including Morristown, Dover and Hopatcong.

    The NWS New York issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of northern Bergen County, including Ramsey, Oakland and Ringwood until 6:15 p.m.

    Hail, wind gusts up to 60-70 mph and frequent lightning are possible, the NWS warns.
