Mesh flats seem like they’re everywhere at the moment—there are so many videos on TikTok of people talking about the trend, and they're popping up in stores left and right. If you’re a ballet flat enthusiast, then mesh ballet flats are a no-brainer next move for you. They give the feminine, sweet look of a ballet flat while also being fun and chic with the mesh. And Target has one of the most affordable and fashionable pairs of mesh ballet flats around that are so similar to Sam Edelman and Anthropologie styles that are up to five times the price.
Target’s Wild Fable brand sells the Women's Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats with Memory Foam Insole for $30 and they’re definitely a hit. We reported on the Elsa Ballet Flats back in March when they only came in two faux leather styles. But now Target is on the mesh flat hype train and has a beige mesh ballet flat style with rhinestones. They still have faux leather for the strap, but other than that, the upper part of the shoe is a mesh made out of 79% polyester, 17% glass beads and 4% polyurethane.
They are a classic Mary Jane ballet flat with a tiny little heel and an adjustable strap. The rhinestones or glass beads aren’t obnoxious and are spaced out pretty well. The shoes have a memory foam insole for added comfort and have a medium width, and they come in sizes 6 through 11.
The listing for this ballet flat has 277 ratings and reviews and a full 5-star rating overall. If those stats weren’t enough, the reviews are very positive.
"I absolutely love these flats!” one person wrote. “They are so comfortable and adorable. Highly recommend! I am a true 6.5 and these fit tts [true to size]."
Another shopper wrote that they’re glad they “waited until these were back in stock,” showing just how in-demand these mesh ballet flats are. They said the flats were “so worth the wait!”
"Don't second guess yourself just BUY THEM," one enthusiastic person wrote in their review. “These shoes are so freaking cute in person. They are very comfortable and the top strap doesn’t dig into the top part of your foot at all…”
In addition to being called “well-made” and “comfortable,” these mesh ballet flats look a lot like other styles from higher-end retailers. For example, the Jeffrey Campbell Swan Lake Gem Mesh Flats sold at Anthropologie are $155 and are nearly identical to the Target mesh Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats. They have a similar design—though the Jeffrey Campbell ones are a bit pointier at the toe. Their neutral color is a similar beige, have a thin strap (though it’s not adjustable) and they have silver glass beads all over.
Another brand with a comparable design is Sam Edelman’s Michaela Shine Mary Jane Flat . They’re currently $160 and have a very similar silhouette to Target’s Elsa ballet flats. Their "Vintage Pink Mesh" is like Target’s beige color and they have glass beads all over. The main difference is the heel (it’s a bit more prominent) and the strap, which is a lot thicker. Their insole is also made with real leather.
So, if you’re trying to get into the mesh ballet flat trend—or you’re building your mesh flat collection as we speak—Target’s Women's Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats is a great option to add to your shopping list.
