A public comment period is under way on a proposal to issue a renewal permit for the Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System to Salt River Project for the Santan Generating Station in Gilbert.

The permit is for the Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System at the station. The public comment period began June 14 and will run until July 14.

SRP operates the Santan Generating Station, a steam power electric generating plant at 1005 S. Val Vista Drive, Gilbert.

SRP applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the discharge of cooling tower blowdown, heat recovery steam generator blowdown, other low volume wastes, stormwater, and non-process raw water from the facility to the Western Canal or to an Arizona Department of Transportation stormwater drainage system and eventual tributary to the Salt River in Maricopa County.
