ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer review

When it comes to maintaining my yard, I have to admit that the job of trimming and edging takes a long time. I need something that’s lightweight, has a battery that lasts, and can cut through thick grass and weeds.

I’d never heard of the ENHULK brand before, but I was absolutely open to testing out their 58V 16” String Trimmer. With their 58V Max Pro Series battery, I knew that the battery would have more power and last longer than say a 24V battery. The ENHULK trimmer did not disappoint in this area.

It cut through my thick grass and weeds with ease and because of its lightweight design, my arms never strained during the task. Even on turbo mode, I could cut through some thicker vines. What makes it stand apart from other string trimmers is that the shaft can be folded for easier storage.

Though it was a little overpriced and the handle may move slightly as you trim, I still think the ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer is a solid choice. Keep reading for my full review and don’t forget to take a look at our guide of best string trimmers to see how it compares.

ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer: Price & availability

I was a little surprised to learn that the ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer has a full price tag of $269. There are plenty of high quality string trimmers on the market that are $200 or less, so this seemed a little high. Granted you’ll often see trimmers with higher voltage batteries (50V-60V) priced a little higher, but beyond the foldable design, I'm not sure there is anything about this trimmer that really warrants the high price.

Thankfully, at the time of writing this review the ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer with aluminum shaft (and battery) was on sale at AiDot for $249.99. Amazon currently sells the aluminium shaft (without the battery) for $159.99 or the carbon fibre shaft (with battery and charger) for $299.99 . It doesn’t appear to be available anywhere else.

ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer: Setup

The ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer comes practically put together, so there isn’t much to set up. I put the battery on the charger and plugged it into the wall and added the guard near the trimmer head. Screws and a tool were provided. Because the string trimmer arrived folded, I straightened the shaft and locked it into place with the screw lever before attaching the handle to the shaft.

ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer: Design

This string trimmer’s design is fairly simple. The shaft is a little over 5.5 feet in length, and the entire trimmer weighs about 9.8lbs. When not in use, the shaft can be folded in half and stored away. When you want to use the trimmer, you straighten the shaft, line up the holes in the center, and use a screw lever to lock it in place.

The 58V battery fits on the back half of the trimmer. To turn on the trimmer, I used the trigger lever that’s in front of the battery. It has a safety feature which means there is a little lever that you have to flip before squeezing the lever. It’s designed this way so a child can’t necessarily pick up the trimmer and use it.

In front of the lever is a control panel with a button that is used to change between eco, high, and turbo modes. You can only use this button when the string trimmer is turned on. The different modes light up green when chosen. The high mode will light up red to notify the user if there is a low battery or issue with the tool.

You can screw the handle wherever you like on the shaft. Down at the end of the shaft is a bump-trimmer head that is compatible with 0.095in and 0.080in trimmer line. A guard protects your legs from blowback.

I have a half-acre yard so I have lots of areas that I need to use a string trimmer. After charging the battery, I took it out in my yard and got to work. It has been raining quite a lot so the grass and weeds were pretty high and thick.

To fully test the string trimmer, I made sure to use all three modes—eco, high, and turbo. On eco mode, the trimmer has a 67dB output. There is a 70dB output for the high mode and a 72dB output on turbo mode. Even though the speed and power output is quite significant, the noise is quite low for a yard tool.

While all three modes cut my grass and weeds very well, of course, turbo did the best. I usually set the trimmer on high mode because I really didn’t need turbo except when cutting some thicker vines. Eco mode did a great job on thinner blades of grass.

The battery lasted between 30-40 minutes when I switched between different modes. Because my yard has so many edges, sidewalks, driveways, trees, and other obstacles that I have to use a trimmer on, I wasn’t surprised that I had to charge the battery before I could finish the job. For instance, I have a whole 80 x 30 foot swath of yard that I can’t use a mower on (because it has a lot of stumps), so a string trimmer is necessary. I just used the trimmer first, and let it charge while I mowed the yard, then finished up with the trimming job afterwards.

What I really liked was that I didn’t have to bump the head often to release more string line. It seems to be a sturdy double string line that cuts through most grass and weeds without breaking off. This is a nice feature because it means I won’t have to fill the trimmer with more line soon (Enhulk provides a little bit of extra line in the packaging).

One drawback came in the form of the handle. I could tighten it enough that it didn’t slip up and down, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t slip around the shaft. In some cases, this was a bit of a bother, however, when I wanted to edge, it was easy to just spin the shaft upside down and keep the handle in place. Since the shaft is straight, it takes some maneuvering to edge well with this trimmer, but it didn’t take me long to figure it out.

Because the trimmer is so lightweight, my arms were never strained. It’s over 5.5 feet in length which is a great length for most people especially if you’re over 5’ 5” in height. If I’m being honest, I prefer string trimmers that are shorter in length only because I can hold the trimmer better. Even then, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

My favorite thing about this string trimmer is that it doesn’t require any maintenance. That’s a huge win in my book. Although I usually stored it away without folding it (because I have a lot of space in my garage), I like that I have the option to fold it down if necessary—like if I need to transport it in my car to do yard work elsewhere.

The Enhulk 58V 16" String Trimmer is part of the Enhulk 58V MAX Pro series, which includes a lawn mower, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, and a leaf blower. I used the Enhulk 58V Leaf Blower after trimming my yard to remove grass clippings from the concrete areas (sidewalk, driveway, etc.) around my home. I found the leaf blower incredibly powerful (even without using the Turbo Mode), and with the three different nozzles it came with, I was able to blow with precision for different tasks. My favorite aspect of this trimmer was the cruise control button that sets the speed to whatever you like.

Enhulk 58V 16” String Trimmer: Maintenance

Perhaps the best thing about this string trimmer is that it requires so little maintenance. Because it’s battery-powered, it doesn’t need gas or oil. You just need to store the battery in a safe place. In the winter, you’ll need to store it somewhere where the temperature doesn’t dip below 50-degrees.

The only "maintenance" you'll have to do is clean the guard of grass clippings and add string to the head when it runs out.

Users were really satisfied with the Enhulk 58V 16” String Trimmer. Many raved about the battery, especially since it contributed to the tool being fairly quiet. They were impressed with the trimmer’s capability to cut through thick and high weeds and that the handle was adjustable to different users. A few pointed out that they liked how lightweight the trimmer is and that the string lasts quite a long time (and that it’s easy to replace when necessary). There weren’t really any complaints about this trimmer. One user received a faulty battery, but even they acknowledged that this was probably a fluke and they really loved the string trimmer until the battery died on the second use.

How does the Enhulk 58V 16” String Trimmer compare?

For a battery-powered string trimmer that’s more affordable, go for the Sun Joe 24V-ST14 Cordless String Trimmer . It may only have a 24V battery and a 12-inch cutting swath (compared to a 58V battery and a 16-inch cutting swath on the Enhulk) but it’s similarly lightweight and you can adjust the length of the pole.

I’ve tested the Dewalt 60V Max 17in Brushless Attachment Capable String Trimmer and it’s a great alternative for those who like battery-powered trimmers. It cuts just as well as the Enhulk but has a 60V versus a 58V battery. Not only that, but you can exchange the trimmer with a brush cutter attachment with ease. Unfortunately, it’s more expensive.

If you want a two-in-one tool that is both a string trimmer and a brush cutter, but isn’t as expensive, go for the Troy-Bilt TB272BC Straight Shaft Brushcutter/String Trimmer . It’s the same concept as the Dewalt, though it takes a few more steps to exchange the trimmer and the brushcutter head. It’s also a gas-powered tool, which means you won’t run out of juice. Unlike the Enhulk, you’ll have to do more maintenance with this tool.

How I tested the Enhulk 58V 16” String Trimmer
