DAVENPORT, Iowa — Quite quickly after finding itself stumbling through a five-game losing streak, the Beloit Sky Carp reversed its fortunes and rattled off three-straight victories against the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Thunderstorms put a stop to Sunday’s series finale with the River Bandits up 2-0 in the top of the third, and with more rain in the area the game was canceled and will not be rescheduled, leaving the Sky Carp’s winning streak in tact and helping them earn a 3-2 series win on the six-game road trip.

On Saturday, Tony Bullard helped Beloit keep up its victorious ways by smacking a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the eighth as the Sky Carp held on the win 5-4.

Sam Praytor started the frame by reaching on a two-base error when Quad Cities’ third baseman Trevor Werner threw the ball past first base on a groundout. Two outs later, Bullard ripped his two-bagger into left field to break the 4-all tie.

Josh Ekness, who had gotten the final out in the seventh, threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning and, after Carter Jensen reached on a two-out single, sealed the win by getting Chris Brito to ground out for the final out.

Cameron Barstad hit his fifth homer of the season in the second, a one-out solo shot to left off starter Henry Williams, to put Beloit up 1-0 in the second. Mark Coley singled with one out in the third and, an out later, Josh Zamora doubled on a line drive to left to up it to 2-0.

Barstad and Bullard walked in the fourth before Osiris Johnson walloped a two-run, two-out double to left to give Beloit a four-run advantage.

But Beloit starter Josh White, who had worked around two walks in the first to throw a 1-2-3 second and third, started to falter in the fourth. Jensen walked, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Spencer Nivens’ single to left.

Caleb Wurster relieved White and his wild pitch moved Niven to second. Jared Dickey walked and Trevor Werner tied the game up with a two-run homer over the left-field wall.

Justin Johnson walked and stole second before Jean Ramirez singled, moving Johnson to third, and also swiped second. But Wurster got a strikeout and a fly out to escape with the game tied.

Johnny Olmstead singled to start the fifth and stole both second and third before being stranded.

It was an odd sixth inning for the Sky Carp. Jake DeLeo sent a single into center to start the frame but Tony Bullard struck out swinging and DeLeo, who was trying to steal second, was called out because it was ruled that Bullard interfered with the catcher.

Johnson singled to left in the next at-bat, and Mark Coley sent a double down the right-field line, but Johnson was tagged out at home plate after a relay throw from right fielder Jean Ramirez to second baseman Johnson to catcher Jensen.

Ignacio Feliz worked around a single and a walk in a scoreless sixth and got two outs in the seventh before a walk brought in Ekness.

Coley, Johnson and Barstad all had two hits for Beloit, which outhit Quad Cities 10-5.

The Sky Carp will return to ABC Supply Stadium for a six-game homestand starting on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. against the Lansing Lugnuts.

    • FRIDAY’S RECAP: It was a pitchers’ duel for eight innings until Johnson’s two-run single in the top of the ninth helped the Sky Carp win 2-0.

Thomas White, the No. 3 prospect in the Miami Marlins’ system, threw five innings while allowing just three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Evan Taylor and Yeuris Jimenz combined for two hitless innings of relief while Xavier Mechem worked a hitless ninth for his third save of the season.

    • THURSDAY’S RECAP: The winning streak got started following a two-hour rain delay as Beloit won 8-5.

Zamora and Praytor both homered in a four-run first while Barstad blasted a solo homer and Olmstead had an RBI double as part of a four-run third.

Karson Milbrandt went 4 1-3 innings and was charged with two earned runs on three hits and six walks while striking out five.
