    Berlitz sets program record in qualifying at U.S. Olympic Trials

    Seniors Danny Berlitz and Justin Heimes of the West Virginia University men’s swimming and diving team competed in the 2024 United States Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday.

    Berlitz began the day competing in the 400-meter individual medley as he set a program record (4:15.98), placing fifth. With his finish, Berlitz advanced to the finals with an opportunity to qualify for the U.S. National Team.

    Heimes had a strong performance in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing with a final time of 55.48. Heimes did not qualify for the finals as he placed 38 th .

    In the 400 IM finals, Berlitz had a strong swim, placing eighth. He touched the wall with a final time of 4:17.65.

    Berlitz will have another opportunity to punch his ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as he will compete in the 200 IM on Thursday, June 20. Qualifying will take place at 11 a.m. ET on Peacock. Finals will be at 8 p.m. on NBC.
